Becoming a member is the best way to support our Association
– by building a strong group, we are providing an important support
network for ourselves and our children. Membership fees are one of our
main sources of income and, with the support of our volunteers, enable
us to provide services to members and increase the visibility of our
families.
Here are some of the direct benefits of your membership:
-
access to monthly activities for kids and moms, all low-cost or free
-
monthly activities for moms, ranging from social events to discussion
groups and guest speakers
-
quarterly newsletter, including articles, information and updates on
political news
-
access to the LMA library of books and videos
-
resources and information on lesbian parenting
But wait, there’s more…
You may be unaware that a part of our membership fees also goes to
support LMA’s political activities. The Association acts as a nerve
centre, sending out information, hooking interested people up with
journalists, researchers, television programs…. Members of the Board of
Directors work on four dossiers of interest to lesbian mothers:
adoption rights; access to public fertility clinics; same-sex marriage;
and homophobia in the schools. Some of these members appear in
interviews and have presented briefs to both federal and provincial
governments, as well as being involved in conferences and public
awareness programs. Not all members wish to play such an active role in
politics, but all of our members benefit from the results - this
volunteer work is hugely important for the visibility of lesbian
mothers, and of lesbians in general.
How
can you resist?
As a member, not only do you have access to activities, newsletters,
resources and support, but you are also supporting concrete social
change that will directly benefit your family.
Membership is $20 a year per family (more if you can, less if you can’t
– and yes, we really mean that). To join, please contact us at info@aml-lma.org
If you do not wish to be involved in activities or receive the
newsletter, please consider sending a donation instead to help fund the
important political work of the Association (please
go to our "Donations" page).
